Frances Chavez, 93, of Amarillo, passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at the home of her daughter Virginia Chavez in San Antonio.
Rosary will be said 6:00 PM today at Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Our Lady of Guadalupe with Rev. Jose Gomez as celebrant. Interment will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
Frances was born in Hayden, NM to the late Pete and Juanita Ortega on June 1, 1922.
She was united in marriage to Frank Chavez on September 18, 1941 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. He preceded her in death August 19, 2010. They were married for 75 blissful years.
A consummate mother and homemaker, Frances was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends, who were her passion and delight. She loved spending vacations at the lake with her grandchildren and she also had great pride in gardening.
She had the most generous, loving heart and touched many lives with her presence. Her family and friends will always be thankful for the gift that was her life.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Michael Steven Chavez; her daughter Maggie Louise Chavez; her parents; two brothers; and two sisters.
Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Chavez, Vicki Martinez and husband, “Chevy” of Amarillo and Virginia Chavez of San Antonio, one sister Elva McCowen, and Albert Ortega of Amarillo; eight grandchildren; Sandra Mendoza, Michael Chavez, Amanda Flores, Vanessa Ramos, Nickolas Escoto, Leslie Hudson, Chris Chavez and Elena Nguyen; 15 great-grandchidren; 14great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
