FRANK ELLIS WALSH, age 86 of Amarillo, died January 14, 2013
Chaplet of Divine Mercy will be recited at 5:45 PM with vigil to follow at 6:00 PM on Thursday evening at Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel.
Funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Cathedral. Celebrant will be Msgr. Harold Waldow. Burial will follow at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
Frank was born June 19, 1926 to William Dennis and Mary Ellis Walsh in Amarillo and graduated from Price College in 1942. Frank served in the United States Navy during battle of Guadalcanal during WWII.
He was one of nine brothers, each of whom worked for the Walsh family grocery stores throughout the Panhandle. For over forty years he served the in the food distribution business, working with Walsh Foods, Monarch Food Service Distribution, Ben E. Keith Food, and served as past president of Sysco Foods of Amarillo and until his death he served as an honorary board member of Ben. E. Keith Foods.
Frank served the community and his church in many capacities; he was a member a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was instrumental and participated in the building and rebuilding three churches. For over forty years he served as chairman of the finance counsel. The church was his life and a large part of his legacy and the Youth Center was named in his and Joanne’s honor. He also was a member of The Knights of Columbus Council 1415 and the Amarillo Executive Association.
He married Joanne on July 10, 1999 in Amarillo.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents William Dennis and Mary Ellis Walsh; his first wife Bama Jane Walsh; sons Frankie and Don Walsh and his brothers, W.D., Jack E., Jim, Bob, and George Pat and Tom Walsh.
Survivors include his wife Joanne of Amarillo; his son Dr. Bruce Walsh and wife Diane of New Rochelle, NY; step-daughter, Lynn Braudt and husband Glenn of Amarillo; his brothers Joe Walsh of Amarillo and Lee Walsh of Mansfield, TX; Grandchildren, Kyle, Amanda, Cary ,Nichole, Tatanya, Jon, Katy, and Josh; and ten great grandchildren.
The family suggests that memorials be made to the St. Mary’s Youth Center or St. Mary’s Cathedral, 1200 South Washington, Amarillo, TX 79102
