Arturo Meza officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery.Frank Chavez 86 of Amarillo died Thursday, August 19, 2010. Frank was born on December 23, 1923 to Victor and Laura Gonzalez Chavez in Liberal Kansas. He grew up and was educated in Amarillo, where he met and married Frances Ortega on September 18, 1941 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.Frank served in the US Army during World War II from 1943 to 1945 where he installed, repaired, and maintained all types of equipment in railroad cars, locomotives and tenders. He performed his duties in France, Belgium, and Germany. He returned to Amarillo after completing his tour of duty and was honorably discharged on December 20, 1945.  He and Frances were the proud parents of three daughters; Patricia, Victoria, and Virginia.  Frank was employed by the Amarillo Independent School District for 20 years as a glassier retiring in 1991. He then served 4000 hours of volunteer service in the Pharmacy Department at the Thomas E. Creek Veterans Affair Medical Center in Amarillo. Frank was dearly loved and will be missed by all of his family and friends. We Love You Grandpa Frank! Frank was preceded in death by his infant son Michael Steven Chavez, a daughter Maggie Louise Chavez, his parents, six brothers and one sister.Survivors include his loving wife Frances Chavez of the home, three daughters Patricia Ibarra and husband Fernando, Vicki Martinez and husband “Chevy” of Amarillo, and Virginia Chavez of San Antonio, two brothers Edward “Lalo” Chavez of Los Angeles, CA., and Felix Chavez of Santa Fe Springs, CA. Eight grandchildren Sandra Mendoza, Michael Chavez, Amanda Flores, Vanessa Ramos, Nickolas Frank Escoto, Leslie Chavez, Chris Chavez, and Elena Nguyen. Twelve great-grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. The family requests memorials to the Thomas E. Creek Veterans Affair Medical Center 6010 Amarillo Blvd. West, Amarillo, Texas 79106.
