Frank Eugene Basler, 88, of Amarillo died Wednesday, March 21, 2012.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in The Church at Quail Creek with the Rev. Dale Moreland officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.
Frank was born July 27, 1923, in Grant County, Kan., to Stanley and Geraldine Wolfe Basler. He was raised on a farm in Grant County, graduating from Prairie Queen School, District 39, and Grant County High School. He later attended Garden City Community College. He proudly served his country in the Navy during World War II, stationed in the South Pacific.
In 1951, he married Maxine Stafford in Mountain Home, Ark. He attended First Church of God in Ulysses, Kan., and he and his wife acted as the youth leaders.
He was employed at Dowell Schlumberger Inc. in Ulysses, Amarillo and finally Perryton until his retirement in 1980. After retirement, he moved to Ulysses and later to Amarillo to be near family. He was employed part-time as a bookkeeper for Smyth Auto. Since 1986, he has been a faithful member of The Church at Quail Creek.
Frank was a loving person, always helping others whether cleaning the church in his youth or, more recently, volunteering at Palo Duro Nursing Home in Claude. No job was beneath him in the service of the Lord.
He enjoyed making wood crafts, mentoring others and collecting clocks. On Saturday mornings, you might find him at the auction awaiting that special clock up for bid.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a sister, Mary Morris.
Survivors include a daughter, Tonya Stout and husband Stan of Amarillo; a son, Grady of Austin; three grandsons, Jeremy Stout of Houston, Kevin Stout of Amarillo and Ryan Stout of Friona; two sisters, Hazel Allen of Hugoton, Kan., and Vera Hayden of Quitman; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
