Fred was born on July 17, 1947 to Ulmer & Eloise Beatty (Baga & Grandpaw) and sister Dotty in Amarillo, TX. He grew up in Clayton, NM where he graduated with a full scholarship to play football at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. He graduated from UNM in 1971 with a Business Degree. He began his successful 40 year career with Prudential Insurance Company after graduation. He went on to become certified with his CLU, ChFC and focused on helping his clients with Life Insurance and Estate Tax planning.
Fred met Lanoma in 1973 and they fell in love listening to the Elvis Presley “Aloha from Hawaii” album. They were married in her hometown of Albuquerque, on January 25, 1975 where they lived until 1979. Fred was promoted to Regional Field director and they were transferred to Houston, TX. Here their first daughter, Emily, was born in September of 1980. After a short 18 months, Fred became the District Manager and was transferred to Wichita, KS where their second daughter, Lisa, was born in November of 1982. In spring of 1983, Fred took the opportunity to open his own office here in Amarillo.
They quickly became involved in the community and found their church home at Suburban Bible Church. Here Fred served as an Elder and Deacon as well as sing in the church choir. Fred took great pride every Sunday in “shaking hands & kissing babies.” They made life long friendship at Suburban and he was also given the opportunity to baptize both of his daughters. Over the years, Fred’s faith and love of the Lord became his legacy. He was blessed with a kind heart who never met a stranger, and was able to witness to an innumerable amount of people.
Fred also served in his community in many ways. He was involved in Gideons, Teen Challenge, Rotary Club, Teen Challenge, Symphony Guild & Art Alliance, as well as serving on numerous business boards and associations.
Even though Fred’s days were full, he always made time for his family. He, along with Nomie, were very active in their daughters lives and their biggest supporters. From coaching their sports, to being on the sidelines of every game and activity they were a part of, even as adults and then as grandparents. He was a true family man, and taught us all the importance of faith first, family second.
Fred enjoyed many things including football, traveling (especially to his sister’s cabin in the Pecos to chop wood with Dotty and Larry), golf, boating, working out & Bible Study.
Fred led a successful career with Prudential. He was a top producer and qualified for several wonderful convention trips, was awarded the benefits for the Million Dollar Round Table, & given many accolades. He retired in 2010, after almost 40 years with the company.
God blessed Fred & Nomie with their dream home in 2008, where he created an incredible bond with his beloved Aoudad Sheep. Not knowing what lied ahead for Fred’s health, we now know what a true blessing this home has become.
Fred was preceded in death by his mother & father.
Survivors include; his wife Lanoma, daughter Emily & husband, Brandon and their daughter Braily, daughter Lisa & husband Dallas and their children Dayton, Brynna, and Dax, his sister Dotty & husband Larry, numerous cousins, in-laws & lifelong friends that he loves dearly.
