Freda T. Lucas, 81, died Saturday, December 8, 2012.
BURIAL will be at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, December 13 in Memory Gardens Cemetery
MEMORIAL SERVICES will be held at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church with Pastor Stephen Friedrich officiating. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
Mrs. Lucas was born on April 18, 1931 in Hollis, Oklahoma to Fred and Elizabeth Travis. She graduated from Drury Nursing School in Springfield, MO in 1953. Freda married John Lucas on April 21, 1957 in Blytheville, Arkansas. Freda was a Registered Nurse for over 40 years. She was a long time member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, and a member of the Martha Sunday School Class. Freda helped start the church prayer Shawl Ministry. She was past president of Church Women United and past president of Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (WELCA). Freda was an avid volunteer for the Downtown Women’s Center, and the American Red Cross.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of the Cottages, who loved Freda and cared for her during her last four years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John in 2002, one sister and one brother.
Survivors include a daughter, Teresa M. Lomax and husband Mike of Amarillo; son, John S. Lucas of Austin; sister, Joyce Watson of Memphis; and a granddaughter, Michelle Leigh Lomax.
