Garland LaDean “Dean” Long, 75, of Amarillo went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ August 8, 2014.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, August 13, 2014 in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel with Pastor Chad Mantooth officiating. Interment will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
Garland was born May 4, 1939 in Childress, TX to J.B. and Grace Long. He enlisted in the US Navy on June 5, 1956 and was assigned to duty on the USS Boxer and was honorably discharged on March 22, 1960. He married Patricia Witt on December 26, 1959 in Boulder, CO. They moved to Amarillo in 1965. Garland worked for Pantex for 30 years retiring in 1997. He attended Amarillo College and graduated from West Texas State University with a Bachelor degree in Economics. Garland was very family oriented and enjoyed spending time with each and every one. Some of his favorite hobbies were golf, and in recent years he enjoyed puzzles and listening to music of all genres. He will be missed by not only his family, but many others of whom he helped.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Charles, Dewayne, and Gordon, and a sister, Betty
Garland is survived by his wife, Patricia, his children, Craig Long and wife Tammy of Amarillo, Diana Errington of Amarillo, Teresa Huguley and husband Glen of Amarillo and Kim Long of Amarillo, his brothers, Adis Long, Donny Teter, his sisters, Ima Hunt, Erma Jean Teter, and Linda Frizzell. His grandchildren, Colby, Jarred and wife Heather, Branton, Brandon and wife Amy, and Brooks and wife Katie, and his great grandchildren, Bella, Skyler, Urijah, Brooks, and Alana.
Family suggests memorials be made to a Veteran’s Association of your choice.
Family will receive friends Tuesday, August 12, 2014 from 6:00-7:00 PM at the funeral home.
