Gary Hubert, 52 of Amarillo, died Sunday, February 2 after a short illness. Vigil will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, February 7 at Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel. A memorial mass for him will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 8 at St. Mary’s Cathedral. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
Gary Lyle Hubert was born on March 9, 1961 to Chuck and Sheila Hubert in Taipei, Taiwan. He was raised in Artesia, California and graduated from Gahr High School in 1979. Gary was a talented athlete who loved soccer and football. He enjoyed his family, his friends and all kinds of sports and outdoor activities. As the result of a water skiing accident when he was 20, he was able to meet his future wife as she helped with his rehabilitation. Together they enjoyed camping, traveling, going on cruises and visiting their large extended family. They defined marriage.
Gary was preceded in death by his mother, Sheila Hubert.
Gary is survived by his loving wife Paula Hubert; his father, Chuck Hubert; his sister, Elaine Magee and his brother, Michael Hubert; five brothers in law; a sister in law, Karen Hubert; more than 30 nieces and nephews and a wide collection of friends. Paula’s father and mother, Tom and Phyllis Brodeur and their four other daughters, Mary Kay Bennett, Maggie Bennett, Barbara Razo and Connie Pekins became Gary’s added family for the past 24 years.
A separate memorial service will be held in Long Beach, CA at a later date.
