George Frederick Aulbach

George Frederick Aulbach, Jr, 83 years, of Amarillo passed away on July 5, 2017.

Memorial services will be at 2:30pm Sunday, July 16th, 2017 at Westcliff Bible Church, 5300 Amarillo Blvd West, with Pastor Steve Waterhouse officiating. George’s nephew, Pastor Kurt Oheim from Pinnacle Community Church, 7200 Arden Road, will also officiate. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.

George Aulbach was born on November 3, 1933 in Dallas to George Frederick Aulbach, Sr., former golf professional, and to Rachel Ann Crapsey Aulbach. George’s Amarillo High School activities included the Sandies Swingsters and the Golf Team.

George married the love of his life Shirley Claire Oheim on April 5, 1953.

George received a BBA in Finance at Texas Tech College. His activities included Band, Golf Team, Finance Club, Flying Club, Arnold Air Society, Tri-State Area Commander, Phi Delta Theta, and Future Teachers of America.

He received a MBA at Arizona State University. His activities included Concert Band, Accounting Club, National Association of Accountants, and Sigma Iota Epsilon.

He also received a BBA in Business Accounting at West Texas State University and became a certified CPA.

For 21 years, George served his country in the United States Air Force from 1955-1976 as a Lieutenant Colonel, Instructor Pilot, and Executive Officer. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal. He served during the Vietnam War stationed in Thailand and Hawaii.

George has been employed at Hammermill Paper Company, Mead Corporation, and West Texas State University teaching accounting along with his military service.

Upon retirement, George began to play the clarinet and saxophone again at the encouragement of Don Oheim. He performed with the Dixieland Band and the Radio Days Orchestra alongside his beloved music teacher, Jim Laughlin, and at various churches.

George proclaimed Jesus Christ as his Savior and it would be the greatest music to his soul if his family and friends do as well.

George is survived by his wife, Shirley Claire Oheim Aulbach of Amarillo, daughter Georjann Aulbach McGaha, and preceded in death by his son Steven Lee Aulbach.

He is also survived by his sister Adele Aulbach Danner and preceded in death by his sister Joan Aulbach Winningham.

His grandchildren include Laura McGaha Haven, Sara McGaha Bush, Dave McGaha, Janna McGaha Phillips, Christa McGaha, and Jonathan McGaha. George had three great grandchildren, Parker Haven, Jackson Haven, and Grayson Haven.
