George A. Gwyn

Mr. Gwyn was born November 17, 1923, in Amarillo, the youngest of eight children born to James and Eva Gwyn. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1941 and Amarillo College in 1947. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the European Theater with the 42nd Rainbow Infantry Division as communications chief of the 3rd Battalion 232nd Infantry Regiment.

He married Frances Camp in August, 1947. She died in August, 1962. In May, 1963, he married Rebecca Parkhill.

He worked for Mobil Oil Company for ten years in the accounting and operations departments. He served as office manager for Affiliated Managers, Inc./Church Loans & Investments Trust from 1962 to 1980. He and Mrs. Gwyn then moved to Plainview where they owned and operated Our House Gifts until 1986. In August of that year, they returned to Amarillo. He was a trout fisherman and golfer with two career holes-in-one, and was a member of the San Jacinto Church of Christ. For many years, he served as deacon and church treasurer of the old Southside Church of Christ in Amarillo.

He is survived by his wife Rebecca; one daughter Cindy Littlefield and husband Donnie of Celina, TX; two sisters-in-law Frances Gwyn of Amarillo and Rose Marie Ware and husband Larry of Granite, OK; five grandchildren Ted Wiley, Wesley Wiley, Corey Littlefield, Jennifer Moore, and Dusty Littlefield, all of the Dallas area; 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son James Andrew in 1957; a daughter Pam Wiley in 2011; one great-granddaughter Cadance Moore; his brothers Aaron, James, J.W., Henry, Charles and Freeman; and sister Betty Morgan.
