George E. Huber, 89 of Amarillo died Thursday, May 8, at his home.
Rosary will be at 5:00 p.m., on Sunday May 11 at Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 Monday, May 12, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Deacon Willie Montano officiating. Interment will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
George was born in Tulia November 20, 1924 to Jacob Spichtinger and Mary Verhey Spichtinger Huber. He grew up working on farms and attended school in Tulia.
He served in the Army Air Corp during WW II in the Berma-India-China Theater where he was a diesel mechanic. After being discharged, he returned to Tulia where he worked as a carpenter and farmhand.
He married Calista Heck on October 9, 1950 in Nazareth. They moved to Amarillo where they started their family of six children. George worked as an automotive mechanic for Sid Stout Ford for 28 years. He then worked for Amarillo State Center for 27 years.
George had a strong and faithful belief in the Lord and was a charter member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, active in the Early V8 Club, Antique Car Club, Good Sam’s Club, Boy Scouts of America and State Square Dancers Association. He loved playing dominoes, boating, fishing, camping, junking, dancing and tinkering with old cars.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a step-father Mike Huber; five sisters, Mary Irlbeck, Marie Lumpkins, his twin sister Georgia Spichtinger, Mildred Whitacker and Doris George; his twin sons Harold and Howard Huber.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years; four children, Jacob and wife Jona of Amarillo, Georgina Coder and husband Richard of Columbia, Missouri, Barbara Parker and husband Randall of San Angelo, and Mark and wife Valerie of Amarillo; nine grandchildren, Jolene Studebaker and husband Derek of Amarillo, Tiffany Smith and husband Chris of Amarillo, Cody Thompson of Dalhart, Jackie Parker, Joshua Parker and wife Ashley, Jaron Parker and Justin Parker of San Angelo, Austin Huber and Abigail Huber of Amarillo; three great-grandchildren Jalen Huber, Katlyn Smith and Makinley Parker; a brother Vincent Huber.
