George was born February 6, 1920 in Gatesville, Texas to John Roy and Maude Alma Johnson. He graduated from Amarillo High School where he was a Golden Gloves champion. He married his high school sweetheart, Thelma Lee Warnecke on December 24, 1940. He served in the US Army in 1944. He was at his best when he was hard at work. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix. He worked for the ATSF Railway for 38 years as a locomotive engineer of passenger and steam engines. He served as a road foreman of engines at various locations throughout Texas and New Mexico. He loved his family dearly and shared all he had with them.
George was a 32nd degree Mason in the Tascosa 1232 Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite, Khiva Shrine and past member of the Advisory Council of Demolay.
He is survived by his wife Thelma; daughters Linda Brazille of Amarillo, Corkie Patterson of Henrietta; sons T. J. Johnson of Amarillo and Tommy Johnson of Slaton; brother J. R. Johnson of Amarillo; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many friends.
