George “Po Po” Walter of Amarillo was welcomed into Heaven on November 6, 2011 after a two year battle with pancreatic cancer. Memorial services will be held in Trinity Fellowship Church on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
George was born September 27, 1936, in New Jersey to George and Violet Walter. He served in the United States Army. He married JoAnn Coffman on February 21, 1959 in Burlington, Iowa. George worked for IAAP of Burlington transferring to Pantex in Amarillo for a total of over 40 years.
George loved his Lord, family, friends, and pets. He enjoyed playing pool and horse shoes, especially when he could “best” the younger ones.
He was a member of Trinity Fellowship Church where he helped with the Loaves and Fishes group, delivering chicken or home meals.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Tom; a nephew, Ned; a great-nephew, John; and a good friend, Buzz.
Survivors left to cherish his memory are his wife, of 52 years JoAnn; two daughters, Lori Naegelin and husband Dan of Plant City, Florida, Sheila Deltoro and husband Marce of Amarillo; sister, Susan Walter of Canton, Mass; three grandchildren, Desiree and Tyler Naegelin and Kelsi Brinson; 6 nieces and nephews and their spouses; 15 great nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Kati and all the Encompass Group, Dr. Sharp of Harrington Cancer Center, and all the staff who treated us as family, BSA Hospice, and most of all to all those who took time to pray for him, for the visits, phone call, cards and food. We will be eternally grateful.
George’s body has been donated to Texas Tech University Health and Science Center as he requested.
