Geraldine "Gerry" Joy Wilson Yock

Geraldine “Gerry” Joy Wilson Yock, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, July 1, 2015.

Funeral services with be held 2:00 P.M. Monday, July 6, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church, 1100 S. Harrison Street, Amarillo, TX, Rev. Paul Frederiksen officiating with burial at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at Haviland Cemetery, Haviland, KS.  Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.

Gerry was born on September 26, 1928, in Wichita, KS to Guy Gerald Dexter Wilson and Lora Isabel Couch.

She was a teacher and private tutor for over forty years.  She taught for the Kansas public school system in Harper, KS and taught in private schools in Amarillo, TX. She helped implement “Week of the Young Child” in the Panhandle of Texas in 1971 and was a past president of the Golden Spread Association for the Education of Young Children.  Gerry was the first cancer patient to enter the Harrington Cancer Center on August 3, 1981 where she not only received treatment, but was a committed longtime volunteer.  She served as a board member for Camp Alphie, a camp for children with cancer and as director of children’s choirs and musicals in churches in both Kansas and Texas.  She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her infant daughter, Shirley Lynette Yock.

She is survived by a son, Bradford Yock and wife, Libby, three daughters, Sharon Eatwell and husband, John, Julie Yock and Tamara Coulson, three sisters, Vada Quick, Joan Hayse and Marce Simmons, five grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

Family suggests memorials to The Harrington Cancer Center, 1500 Wallace Blvd, Amarillo, TX 79106.

The family will receive visitors at the Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia, Sunday, July 5, 2015 from 5:30 P.M. until 6:30 P.M.
