A memorial service for Gertrude Naomi Jones will be Friday, February 17 at 2:00 at the First United Methodist Church in Claude. The Rev. Dan Carter will officiate. Burial will be in the Claude Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
Gertrude died February 14 in Claude at the age of 89. She lived her whole life in Claude having been born there March 20, 1922. Gertrude was the youngest of five children born to William Stephenson and Mattie Pyle Stephenson, early-day settlers of the Texas Panhandle.
Gertrude was a graduate of Claude High School, class of 1940. She married Wayne Jones in Claude September 21, 1946. They were united in marriage for 63 years until parted by Wayne’s death in 2010. While raising five sons Gertrude also worked for the Claude School, the Claude Nursing Home, and the Methodist Church’s Mothers’ Day-Out Program.
The center of Gertrude’s life was her family: her husband and sons. She was also a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church of Claude.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
She is survived by her sons: Ken and his wife, Elizabeth Anne, of Sherman; Terry of Amarillo; Ricky and his wife, Zana, and Bobby all of Claude; and David and Chris of Dallas.
She is also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Claude in care of the Paving Fund or to the charity of your choice.
