Glennis Maxwell Shields, age 85, died Monday, July 30, 2012.
Prayer services will be held at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, August 2, in Brentwood Chapel at Schooler Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 3, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with the Rev. Daniel Dreher as celebrant. Burial will follow at 2:00 PM at Stinnett Cemetery, Stinnett Texas. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
Glennis was born August 5, 1926 in Wellington Texas. She married Earl P. Shields on December 26, 1944. They were married 51 years and had three children. Their young family lived in Sunray, TX for 14 years. In 1961 they moved to Stinnett, TX where they lived until she and Earl moved to Amarillo in 1993. Glennis spent the last year of her life living with her daughter, Ann, and son-in-law, Steve Hamilton, in Magnolia, TX.
Glennis was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a member of St Thomas Catholic Church in Amarillo. It was her strong Catholic faith that sustained her in times of unbearable sorrow. She was primarily a homemaker with a passion for sewing. She operated a Tailoring business from her home for many years. She was also employed at Cartwright’s dress shop in Borger for several years.
Glennis was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lela Maxwell, husband Earl Shields, two sons Michael and Joseph Shields, two brothers Kenneth Maxwell and Freddie Maxwell.
Glennis is survived by her daughter, Ann Hamilton and son-in-law Steve Hamilton; daughter-in-law Kris Shields; four grandchildren Mike Shields, Lisa Shields Reed, Chad Hamilton, and Dan Hamilton; six great-grandchildren, Bailiegh Shields, Braxton Reed, Camden Shields, Weston Shields, Kenadi Hamilton and Jakobi Hamilton. She is also survived by one sister, Helen Fires and one brother, Dean Maxwell.
The family suggests memorials be sent to Altus Hospice, 1525 Lake Front Circle #1; The Woodlands, TX
