Gorden Ray Jenkins, Sr., of Amarillo, Texas, joined his Savior and Lord on October 16, 2017. He was born in Sayre, Oklahoma on August 25, 1940, to Wilburt and Maurine Jenkins.
Gorden is survived by the love of his life, Laura Jean, whom he married in 1957. They were married for 59 2/3 years. Others left to cherish his memories are 2 sons, Skip Jenkins (wife Nicole), Michael Jenkins (wife Janell), 1 daughter, Christie DeOtte (husband John), 7 grandchildren, Jennifer Clark, Scott Jenkins, Julie Jenkins, Jamie Milton, Jordan Byrd, Erin DeOtte, Lauren DeOtte, and 4 great grandchildren, Tristin Clark, Katelyn Clark, Owen Milton and Alice Milton. He is also survived by 1 brother, Lewis Jenkins.
He worked in construction in his early years, then working for the Baker Company for 10 years. He retired from Allstate Insurance after working for them for 30 years.
Gorden won numerous medals in running, which he so enjoyed, as a member of the West Texas Running Club. He also took a great deal of pleasure in snow skiing, camping, traveling, and of course, spending time with his precious family. He was also an enthusiastic “do-it-yourself-er”, lovingly taking care of many “honey-do’s” around the house.
The Celebration of Life Service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 21, 2017, at Paramount Baptist Church where Gorden was a deacon for over 40 years, and served on various committees there. He taught youth at Paramount since 1971, where the youth affectionately knew him as Gordo. He was a passionate Habitat for Humanity volunteer, and was currently serving on the board of Baptist Community Services.
Gorden Ray Jenkins, Sr. will be lovingly remembered for faithfully serving others, and most importantly for faithfully serving the Lord and Savior all of his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Paramount Baptist Youth Ministry.
