GORDON WAYNE SWARTZ, age 92 of Amarillo died August 17, 2015 in Amarillo.
An Inurnment at the Fort Dodge National Cemetery in Kansas will be on Monday, August 24th at 2:00 PM in Kansas.
Gordon was born in Eddyville, Nebraska on June 3, 1923 to Samuel and Myrtle Swartz. He served in the US Army during 1943 until 1945.
He married the love of his life Delores Ludowese on January 28, 1948 in Wheaton, Minnesota on a day that was 28 degrees below zero. The weather was cold but hearts were warm and their marriage spanned over 67 years.
The family lived in Kansas and California before settling in Amarillo in 2007. Gordon was a truck driver for Century Refining and Forman and warehouse manager for Griffith Food Lab before retiring.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Gail Swartz and all of his siblings.
He is survived by his wife, Delores; two sons Greg Swartz and his wife Stacy of Pleasanton, CA and Tim Swartz and his wife Colleen of Oakdale, CA; three daughters, Teresa Zellner and husband Tom of Hugoton, KS, Twila Swartz of Amarillo and D’Lisa Swartz of Fort Scott, KS; one grandson, Shane Swartz and wife Mlynn, of Goodwill, OK; nine grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; one foster son, Donnie Shantz and wife Shirley of Hot Springs, SD; one foster daughter, Elaine Oliver and husband, Jones of Amarillo; four foster grandchildren, 7 foster great grandchildren, and 2 foster great grandchildren.
