Greg Shoemaker, 51, of Amarillo, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2017 in Amarillo.
A vigil will be held at 6:30 PM Friday, August 4, 2017 at Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Saturday, August 5, 2017 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with Rev. John Valdez as celebrant. Entombment will follow at Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Amarillo. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia. Lunch will be provided after the funeral at St. Thomas Catholic Church.
Greg was born on May 5, 1966 to E.D. and Mary Sue Shoemaker in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Greg was active in soccer and wresting during his school years. He graduated from Amarillo
High in 1985. 1n 1990 he graduated from Texas Tech with a Bachelor of Science. In Lubbock he was a claims adjuster for Progressive Ins., Unitrin, and Scoggin Dickey.
Greg spent 20 years as a summer camp counselor and camp leader for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. It was a passion of his to help the children have wonderful memories of their summers. Greg loved to hunt and fish with his dad and brother in law. As well as the outdoors Greg was an avid sports fan of all sports. He became a master of grilling and cooking for family and friends just like his mom and dad.
Most of all Greg loved to spend time with family and friends at sporting events and cookouts.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Greg was survived by one sister, Terri Kitts and husband Tom; nephew, Trevor Kitts; and one niece, Kheli Kitts Harless and husband Joe and children Braydon and Ashlin. He is survived by nephew Tod Kitts and wife Teri and children Ryan, Casey, and Tori all of Amarillo.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Golden Spread Council, 401 Tascosa Rd., Amarillo, Texas 79124 or Muscular Dystrophy Association, www.mda.org.
