Guadalupe "Lupe" Guzman-Hampton

October 6, 1947 — September 22, 2024

Amarillo

Guadalupe “Lupe” Guzman Hampton, 76 of Amarillo, was called home to meet her Lord and Savior on September 22, 2024.

Funeral services will be held in the Schooler Funeral Home's Brentwood Chapel on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at 10 am, with Pastor Trevor Brown of First Baptist Church of Amarillo presiding.

Lupe was born on October 6, 1947, in Memphis, Texas, to Elijio Gardenas Guzman and Carmen Hernandez Guzman. She grew up in Amarillo, Texas where she became a hair stylist and opened her own salon. Her relaxed wit and scissor-sharp style had clients lined up for years.

She had the ability to make anyone who sat in her chair feel like the most beautiful person in the world.

While Lupe’s career was important to her, nothing was more important than her family and her love for Christ. She worked tirelessly to provide for and nurture three sons Joseph, Greg, and Barret.

Lupe caught the eye of Wayne Hampton who later became her husband and love of her life. The two relocated to Mocksville, North Carolina where she resided until December of 2022. While there, she cared for Wayne and his sister Melba until they went to be with the Lord.

A natural giver, she donated her time translating Spanish to English for First Baptist Church in Amarillo, Texas along with assisting those less fortunate at the Store House for Jesus in Mocksville, North Carolina.

Lupe was consistently supportive, caring, and available for all her family and friends in times of need. She provided emotional support, financial help, and sought spiritual guidance through prayer.

Lupe never met a stranger and always had a kind word for everyone she encountered. She will be remembered as someone who lit up a room with her warm smile, laughter, and love for Christ.

She is now reunited with those who preceded her, including her parents, brothers Raymond Guzman, Jackie Hernandez, Jerry Hernandez, Joe Peter Hernandez, Thomas Hernandez and sisters Bertha Salzar, Patsy Billard, sons Joseph Guzman and Brad Langford, and her husband Avery Wayne Hampton.

Those left to cherish her memory are son Greg Guzman, daughter RaDonna Guzman, son Barret Carter and wife Julianne, grandchildren Ashton Young and husband Darrell, Braxton Guzman, Bailey Powers and husband Jeremy, Isaiah Guzman and wife Rylie, Andrea Kiefer, great grand children Brayden, Bentley, Bryer, Lane, and Lincoln, brothers Manuel Guzman, Rosendo Hernandez, Jessie Guzman, Johnny Hernandez, Robert Guzman, Tony Hernandez, sisters Lucy Garcia, Annie Little, Mary Romero, many nieces, nephews and friends who were like family.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Lupe’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Tunnel to Towers Foundation
