Gwen Coble Sutton, 82, of Amarillo died Friday, January 13, 2017.
Memorial services will be at 2 pm, Wednesday, January 18th at the Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel at 4100 South Georgia, Amarillo, TX 79110.
Gwen was born in Amarillo, Texas on September 11, 1934. She graduated Amarillo High, Amarillo College, and completed her studies for Registered Nurse at Northwest Texas Hospital School of Nursing. She married Herb Sutton of Augusta, Wisconsin on March 22, 1957 in First Presbyterian Church of Amarillo. They were happily married for 59 years.
She served as a registered nurse at the opening of High Plains Baptist Hospital, and worked her way up to Night Supervisor.
She enjoyed line dancing, roller blading, and camping in Lake City, Colorado. She served in various churches including Unity Church of the High Plains. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels of Amarillo. She had a wide variety of interests including music, languages, spirituality, and the power of laughter. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Margaret Coble of Amarillo.
Survivors include her husband, Herb Sutton; two daughters, Julie Sutton of Amarillo and Carol Sutton Zernial, son-in-law Ernest Zernial, and three grandsons Chris, Wes and Ben Zernial of San Antonio; sister Jan Sharon Coble of Cleveland, Ohio.
The family requests that instead of flowers, donations be made in her name to Meals on Wheels of Amarillo, 219 SW 7th Ave., Amarillo, TX 79101.
