Hansford Frederic Johnson, Jr., 69, of Amarillo died July 5, 2018.
Private graveside services will be held at Erick Cemetery in Erick, Oklahoma. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, Amarillo.
Fred was born March 6, 1949 in San Antonio, Texas to Dr. Hansford Frederick Johnson and Ruth Daughtry. He attended Amarillo High School where he was Quarterback of the Sandie Football Team then went on to receive a Bachelor of Music from Wake Forest University in Wake Forest, North Carolina. He also earned a Master of Music from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. Fred also studied classical guitar at North Carolina School of the Arts where his teacher was Jesus Silva, in the musical line of Andres Segovia.
As a Classical Guitarist, Mr. Johnson played concerts in schools, universities, and concert venues in Europe and The United States culminating in a debut recital at Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall in New York City.
He married Janna Mills in Amarillo and Sayre, Oklahoma in April of 1984. Mr. Johnson worked 14 years at the Pantex Plant, where he was the Energy Manager. He was a lifetime member of the American Association of Energy Engineers.
Fred is preceded in death by his parents and survived by his wife, Janna.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to Interim Healthcare: Perryton Parkway, Pampa, Texas 79065.
