Bell Helicopter of Amarillo employed Gene for more than 10 years. During that time, he received a special citation for his service on a team selected to assemble a fleet of 7 Presidential helicopters.

Gene placed his faith in Jesus Christ in 1950 and joined Amarillo’s First Baptist Church in 1968.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents John B. and Bertha Young Boardman, as well as his three brothers and two sisters of Indiana.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mynetta Fowler Boardman, the love of his life; three daughters-Linda and husband Gary Kramer of Albuquerque, Lana Boardman Smith of Phoenix, and Lela Jo and husband David Ford of Amarillo; grandchildren Leslie and David Kramer, Greg and Tony Smith, and Jeffrey, Jonathan, and Justin Ford; five great-grandchildren; and his niece Verna Louise Johnson of Boonville, Indiana.

A private family service, officiated by Dr. Chester O'Brien of First Baptist Church, was held on Saturday, March 24th, with full military honors provided by the Blue Knights Honor Guard of Altus, Oklahoma.  Interment was held in Memory Gardens Cemetery Field of Honor in Amarillo.  Arrangements were by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S.
