Harry Reed Eaton

Harry Reed Eaton, age 87, died August 1, 2012, in Amarillo.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 4 in Brentwood Chapel at Schooler Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Sullivan officiating.  Burial will be in Llano East Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.

Mr. Eaton was born August 4, 1924, in Imperial, Pennsylvania to Fred Eaton and Irma Reed Eaton.  While serving in the Navy during World War II, he met Dorothy Sherman, and they were married June 20, 1944.  They had four children:  one daughter and three sons.

Harry was on a Navy LST ship that took the Marines into Iwo Jima during WWII.  After the war ended, Harry went to electronics school and graduated at the top of his class.  He worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, also at Los Alamos, New Mexico, and the Nevada Test Site.  The family moved to Amarillo in 1976 and Harry worked at Pantex until his retirement in 1996.

Harry enjoyed teaching night classes in electronics and was a dedicated Sunday school teacher.  He was a member of South Georgia Church of the Nazarene.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, David and Richard Eaton.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; a daughter, Margie Eaton Pickett and husband, Clark of Maryland; three sons, Larry Eaton and wife, Connie of Kentucky; Casey Eaton, and Bud Eaton and wife, Melinda, all of Amarillo; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Dee Allison; and a brother Samuel Eaton, both of Pennsylvania.

The family will receive friends from 6-7:00 p.m., Friday, August 3, at the funeral home.
