Harry E. Neel age 78 of Amarillo, died January 16th, 2012 in Amarillo.
Funeral services will be Friday, January 20, at 10:00 AM at St. Stephen United Methodist Church. Rev. Don Travis will officiate. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
Harry was born in Plainview on July 15, 1933 to Clayton and Virginia Neel. He lived in Amarillo for most of his life, graduating from Amarillo High School in 1951. He earned a BBA degree in Finance from Texas Tech University in 1955. He married the love of his life, Connie Rae Hunter in Lubbock in 1954. Harry served in the United States Army.
Harry retired as Sr. Vice President of Atmos Energy in 1988. Prior to his retirement, he worked in the natural gas industry for over thirty years. He served as the Chairman of the Board of the Texas Gas Association, was a member of both the Southern Gas Association and the American Gas Association.
In addition to his involvement in the gas industry, Harry served his community by being very involved in numerous civic organizations. He served on the Board of Directors for the following organizations, Amarillo Chamber of Commerce, Amarillo United Way, Amarillo Credit Association and was a member of the Citizen’s Budget Committee, Boy Scout Troop Committee (troop 80), served on the Boy Scout of America Council Board and was president of the Panhandle Personnel Association.
While living in Lubbock from 1970 until 1974 Harry served on the Board of Directors of the Lubbock United Way, The YMCA was a member of the Citizen’s Budget Committee and served as committee chairman for Boy Scout Troop 402 and was a Council Board Member of the Boy Scouts of America in Lubbock.
Harry enjoyed golfing, sports and loved old movies and watching television; however his favorite times were those spent with his family especially his grandchildren. He was a member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church. The family would like to express their gratitude for all the loving care that the staff at Ware Memorial and BSA Hospice provided to Harry.

He is survived by his wife, Connie; his two sons, Paul Neel and wife Donna of Oklahoma City, Scott Neel of Pampa; daughter Cathy Manes and her husband Michael of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Kelsey Hofacer of Cincinnati, Monica Neel of Stillwater, Abigail Manes and Bethany Manes of Amarillo; other family, Charles Garrett and Betty Hunter; and many other loving family members and friends.
