Harvey Ray Pate, 82, of Amarillo passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2022.
Harvey will lie in state on Sunday, February 27, 2022 from 12pm to 5pm in the Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia. A graveside service will take place on Monday, February 28, 2022 at 11am in the Memorial Park Cemetery of Dalhart, Texas with Harvey’s beloved family officiating.
Harvey was born June 9, 1939 in Dalhart, Texas to Thomas Alva Edison and Ruby Laverne (Machotcka) Pate. He graduated from Dalhart High School and would later attend West Texas State University in Canyon for a brief time before joining his father’s welding business.
On November 12, 1966 Harvey would exchange vows with Blenda McMurry. Together they would share 55 years of marriage and raise two sons, Brett and Kevin Pate. Following working with his father, Harvey would set off on his own and become a maintenance supervisor for various petroleum and carbon black plants all throughout the Texas panhandle.
Harvey loved watching sports. It was like second nature to him. He would watch whatever was on as long as it was competitive, but his absolute favorite was the Dallas Cowboys. But even the mighty Cowboys couldn’t hold water when compared to watching his grandchildren’s sporting events. Harvey never missed Daphne or Brayson’s sporting events, no matter the time of day.
Harvey was a do it all kind of handyman. He was able to fix just about anything, even if it meant having to re-do it to meet the requirements of Ms. Blenda. He loved animals and they kept a few cats in the home at all times. Even with all of this, Harvey loved his family the most. He found great pleasure when surrounded by his loved ones.
Harvey is preceded in death by his parents and sister Glenda Sweet. Those left to cherish his memories are his beloved Blenda, sons Brett Pate and wife Renee, and Kevin Pate; and his grandchildren Daphne and Brayson Pate. Harvey also leaves behind many other loving family and dear friends.
