Hattie Pauline Clement

May 3, 1910 — October 15, 2009

Hattie was born May 3, 1910 in Izard County, Arkansas to Abram and Marintha Haley. Hattie and her family came by train to the Texas Panhandle when she was a child. She met James “Hampton” Clement and they married in Shamrock, Texas on May 17, 1927. She and Hampton lived throughout Texas, finally settling in Amarillo in 1944. The most important thing to Hattie was taking care of her family. She and Hampton had four children, and raised them in Amarillo. She joined San Jacinto Baptist Church in 1944 and has held membership there ever since. She taught the Sunday School class for preschoolers for over 55 years. She was a great homemaker, and enjoyed gardening and quilting. She enjoyed sewing gifts for all her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hampton; one daughter, Wanda Johnson; two granddaughters, Amy Clement and Bretta Fite, and eight brothers and sisters.
She is survived by two daughters, Jessie Solomon of Amarillo and Jorene Axelrod of St. Petersburg, FL; one son, James “Jimmy” Clement of Gatesville, Tx; one sister, Inez Brachahn of Yorktown, Tx; one brother, Ronald Haley of Rockport, Tx; ten grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
