Helen Howard Eades died March 12, 2013. Her life will be celebrated at First Baptist Church Chapel, at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 16, with Dr. Howard Batson officiating. Private burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
Helen was born April 15, 1922, in New York City to William and Margaret Howard. She came to Amarillo in 1945 where she worked for several local firms. In 1954 she met and married R. W. “Bud” Eades.
Their children are Carol Eades Vasconcellos and husband Tony of Lincoln, CA, Roger Allen Eades and wife Tammy of Granbury, TX, Wesley Martin Eades and wife Holly of Waco, TX, Brian Jeffery Eades and wife Jennifer of Amarillo. She leaves ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a nephew, Dr. Alex L’Heureux and wife Dinah of Edmond, OK; two nieces, Katherine L’Heureux and Mary L’Heureux, both of Amarillo.
Helen was active in the Olsen Park Elementary School PTA where she served as president. She was active in First Baptist Church as a member of the Women’s Missionary Union and as a Sunday School teacher.
In 1970, the family moved to Hereford where Helen served as president of the Women’s Missionary Union and a Sunday School teacher in the First Baptist Church. She served on the board of the women’s division of the Deaf Smith County Chamber of Commerce, the Library Board, and introduced the Weight Watchers program to the community.
On returning to Amarillo in 1990, she again became a Sunday School teacher at First Baptist church and a volunteer for more than ten years at Baptist-Saint Anthony’s Hospital.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Lynn L’Heureux, and a daughter-in-law, Alice Cranford Eades.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Olivia’s Angels/BSA Hospice, c/o Harrington Cancer Foundation, 1600 Wallace Blvd., Amarillo, TX 79106.
The family invites friends to be with them in love and fellowship from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 15, at the funeral home.
