Helen Mathewson

Helen was born September 11, 1913 in Kane, Pennsylvania to Edward and Alice Magnuson. She attended a one room school house in Kane, then went on to attend nursing school in Jamestown, NY. She met Lee Mathewson and they married on April 5, 1935 in New York. They moved to Amarillo in 1949 and remained here the rest of their life together. She worked as a nurse at the Amarillo City Jail in the early 1960’s. Lee and Helen were charter members of St. Paul UMC. Helen was a member of the Caring Christians Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Lee in August, 1983; her son Dan Mathewson in 1975; four brothers and five sisters.
She is survived by her daughter Judith Lankford and husband John of Amarillo; her sister Martha Vantine of Weatherford, Tx and her beloved cat Maggie.
The family wants to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Heritage Convalescent Center and Ware Memorial Care Center for the love and compassion they gave to Helen.
