Helen Alice Mazurek

January 8, 1920 — July 24, 2010

Helen Alice Mazurek, 90, died peacefully on Saturday, July 24th, 2010. A Rosary will be held on Monday, July 26th at 7 pm at Schooler Funeral Home in Amarillo.  A funeral mass will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Amarillo with Msgr. Joseph Tash officiating, followed by graveside services at Edith Ford Cemetery in Canadian, TX at 3 pm. Helen was born in Bandera, Texas on January 8, 1920 to Henry and Mary Mazurek and spent most of her adult life farming and ranching in Bovina, TX, where she was a 60 year member of St. Anne’s’ Catholic Church and Altar Guild. Helen, affectionately known as “Memaw” to her family and many others always had “oodles of love” for those who crossed her path and spent much of her time caring for many.  She had a mischievous knack for cutting up with people to always make them feel welcome and to always make them laugh, even up to her last days here on earth. She was proud of her Polish heritage and enjoyed good country music, especially if there was a fiddle involved; and she loved playing her harmonica with family and friends.   Helen was very dedicated to her faith and very faithful to her family and friends! Her family would like to thank all of their dear friends for their many thoughts and invaluable prayers.  They would also like extend their sincere gratitude to her wonderful friends at Conner House in Canyon, and Childer’s Place for the love, dignity and compassion they showed in caring for her. Helen was preceded in death by two sisters; Aggie Batto, and Anna Mae Evans, two brothers; Stanley Mazurek, and Fabian Mazurek; and by a dear son-in-law, Philip Lloyd. Survivors include Mary Ann Engler of Amarillo, three grandsons; Tony Lloyd and wife Pam, Mike Lloyd and wife Aleta, and Shane Lloyd; and six great grandchildren; Tyler, Tara, Trevor, Todd, Mikalie, and Briana.  She is also survived by two sisters Elizabeth Lasseter and Marie Rappold; and a brother Wilford Mazurek and wife Winnie. The family suggest memorials be made to Olivia’s Angels, BSA Hospice.
