Helene Ivy McClure

November 25, 1932 — September 2, 2024

Amarillo

Helene Harris McClure of Canyon, Texas, passed away on September 2, 2024 at the age of 91.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024, at 10 am at Llano Cemetery, with Pastor Corky Holland of First Baptist Church presiding. A casual reception will be held at the home of Helene's son Lynn at 2 pm Friday afternoon.

Helene was born in Vega, Texas on November 25, 1932 where she was raised by her mother Bernice “Tootie” and stepfather, J.T. Singleton. After high school, she moved to Amarillo where she graduated from the Northwest Texas Hospital School of Nursing in 1955. She married the love of her life, Weldon McClure on June 14, 1957, and later had five children. Following her move from Vega, Helene was a life–long member of the First Baptist Church of Amarillo.

In 1967, Helene decided to retire from nursing to dedicate all of her time as a stay–at–home mother and homemaker. This was a decision she never regreted, although she missed the many professional relationships developed over that time she practiced as a nurse. Many of her closest, life–long friendships originated with her nursing classmates.

Helene loved people in general and her family in particular. It was never too late to whip up a meal at any hour of the day or night. There was never a need for an invitation as she maintained an open–door policy with friends, family and strangers alike. She was a night owl by nature and was never the one to leave a good conversation, simply because the hour was late. As her children grew, she especially loved the holidays, as it was an opportunity for “gathering the group” to celebrate collectively into the wee hours of the night. In short, she was a person who required little personally but was always mindful and attentive to the needs, wants and wishes of others.

Helene is survived by a son, Lynn McClure and wife, Debbie; a daughter, Kelly Paulk, and second daughter, Leah Henderson and husband, Jody. She has two grandchildren, Hallie McClure of Lubbock, Texas and Nathan Henderson of Austin, Texas. Helene is preceded in death by her husband, Weldon McClure, a son, Stephen and a daughter, Kerri Coursey.
