Helene Elizabeth Andreski Shaltry age 99 formally of Amarillo died May 31, 2011.
A Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 7, 2011 in St. Hyacinth Catholic Church with celebrant Msgr. Ray Crosier. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery, in Amarillo, Texas. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.
The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Monday June 6, 2011 from 6:00 P.M,. to 7:00 PM.
Helene was born January 22, 1912 in Bay City, Michigan to Stanley Andreski of Michigan and Anna Konopacky of Wisconsin. She spent her childhood in Saginaw, Michigan.
She graduated from St. Andrews High School and School of Music, in Saginaw, Michigan and attended Bliss-Alger Business College.
She performed as a violinist in symphonies for 20 years. She was a volunteer at St. Anthony's Hospital for 20 years and also worked as the Gift Shop Manager at St. Anthony's Hospital in Amarillo, Texas.
She met Leo Daniel Shaltry and they married February 22, 1941, in Holy Family Church in Saginaw, Michigan. Leo passed away in 1973. Helene has lived in Amarillo from 1952 to 2009 when she relocated to Richland, Washington.
She was a member of the Amarillo Book Review Club and many bridge clubs. Also, the Women's Altar Society through St. Hyacinth's Catholic Church, and a longtime member of St. Hyacinth's Choir. Helene was a long time member of the Amarillo Senior Citizens Association. .
Preceded in death by her husband Leo Shaltry in 1973; her dad Stanley Andreski in 1935; her mom, Anna Konopacky Andreski Bassing in 1963; and Anna's second husband, Joseph Bassing in 1963.
Helene is survived by her six children: Judith Ann of Deerfield, Illinois; Mary Jo of Amarillo, Texas; Jan Patrice Shaltry Coutts and husband, Tom Coutts of Richland, Washington; Jeanne Terese of Amarillo, Texas; Jon Leo and wife, Martha Allen of Amarillo, Texas; and Jeralyn Ann Shaltry Spampinato of Eveleth, Minnesota; 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren with one on the way in 2011.
