Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 11 at Cornerstone Baptist Church, with Pastor Coy Wylie officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
Mr. Banta was born October 1, 1932 to Vester and Varl Banta in Dierks, Arkansas. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1950 and on June 2, 1956, he married Marjorie “Marge” Blanton. Henry served in the US Navy for two years. He worked for Shamrock Oil & Gas while attending and graduating from Amarillo College. While continuing his employment with Shamrock, he graduated from West Texas State University with a degree in accounting and obtained his CPA license by the age of 30. He retired from Shamrock in 1994.
Henry and Marge were charter members of Journey Street Baptist Church and presently attended Cornerstone Baptist Church. He taught adult Sunday school classes at both churches. He had also served as Treasurer for both churches.
He is preceded in death by two children, Susan Banta and Mark Banta; his parents; and one sister, Doris Stapp.
Survivors are his wife, Marge; a daughter, Marcy Sharp of Amarillo; a special son, Steve Sharp of Amarillo; one brother, Raymond Banta of California; and two grandsons, Colton and Samuel Sharp.
The family would like to say a special “thank you” to Lorry Parker and all of the staff at The Cottages at Quail Creek who cared for Henry during his illness of Alzheimers. We were also blessed by the many friends who prayed for Henry during his illness. Thanks be to God for his grace and mercy in our time of need.
