Henry 'Dale' Gilbert

Henry “Dale” Gilbert age 92 of Amarillo past away February 25, 2017 in Amarillo.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 28th at 2:00 PM at Bell Avenue Baptist Church. Rev. Danny Logan will officiate. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery.  Military Honors courtesy of Volleys for Veterans.  Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.

Dale was born February 6, 1925 in Granbury, TX to Zachary and Laura Gilbert. He graduated from Granbury High School before entering the US Army. Dale served from May 1944 until June 1946 in the 11th Airborne Division as a paratrooper. He was stationed in the Pacific Theater, including the Philippines, Okinawa. He also served in the occupation forces in Japan.

He married Charleen Buchanan on December 18, 1950 in Ft. Worth. Dale worked for Southwestern Bell for over forty years, retiring in 1989. He delighted in his family, especially his grandsons and great grandchildren. He enjoyed camping, dominoes, fishing and woodworking. He also enjoyed playing the guitar.

Dale was a member of Bell Avenue Baptist Church. He was a strong Christian man who was devoted to and loved the Lord.

Dale is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
He is survived by his wife, Charleen; three sons, Lowell Gilbert and wife Cleo of Santa Fe, NM, Larry Gilbert and wife Linda of Amarillo and Richard Gilbert and wife Nellie of Royce City, TX; four grandsons, Tyler, Aaron, Adam and Ryan Gilbert; and six great grandchildren.
