H. Wayne Mosley, 89, of Amarillo died September 4, 2011.

The family will receive friends at Schooler Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM.


Memorial Services will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 8th at Trinity Baptist Church.  Private family interment will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by  Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.

Mr. Mosley was born April 18, 1922, at Frankel, Stephens County, Texas to Garrett B. Mosley and Sarah Gandy Mosley. He grew up and attended public schools in Alpine, Texas.
After graduating from high school, Mr. Mosley joined the United States Marines where he served for over four years in the Pacific War Zone during World War II. Mr. Mosley participated in the battles of Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Saipan and Tinian. He was awarded a Letter of Commendation for “meritorious conduct in action against the enemy” during an intense enemy engagement while on Guadalcanal and received the Presidential Unit Citation for the attack on Tarawa.
Following discharge from the Marine Corps, Mr. Mosley attended school at Sul Ross State University and Texas Christian University as a business major. While at Sul Ross he met and married the former Evelyn Weaver of San Angelo, Texas. They were married September 1, 1946 in San Angelo.

Mr. Mosley was active in the dairy industry for over 38 years; the last 32 before his retirement were with Borden, Inc. At the time of his retirement in 1988, he was executive vice president of Borden, Inc. and president of the Dairy Division dividing his work between Borden’s New York executive offices and its national dairy headquarters in Houston.

Mr. Mosley served on the board of directors of the International Association of Ice Cream Manufacturers, the Milk Industry Foundation, the United Dairy Industry of America, the Southern Association of Dairy Food Manufacturers, and the Dairy Products Institute of Texas; and was inducted into the Texas Dairy Industry Hall of Fame.

Mr. Mosley enjoyed working in church and civic activities. He taught boys’ Sunday school and did volunteer work with Kid’s Inc. for many years. He was a past member of the Abilene and Amarillo Rotary Clubs and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. Wayne and Evelyn traveled extensively having visited cities and villages on six continents. He enjoyed golf, water sports, fishing and camping. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

Mr. Mosley was preceded in death by a son-in-law, James N. Gleason.
In addition to his wife Evelyn, Mr. Mosley is survived by a daughter, Eva Gleason of Amarillo, son Wayne Mosley, Jr. and wife Karen of Sanger, Texas, son Mark Mosley and wife Terri of Amarillo, and son Patrick Mosley and wife Mary of Waco. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Chris Gleason and wife Rebecca, Jenni Henderson and husband Ryan, Melonie Esparza and husband Eddie, Bonnie Posey and husband Cody, Cathleen Mosley, and Wade Mosley; and by eight great grandchildren.

Other survivors include one sister, Alverine Peach of Cherry Valley, California and one brother Gordon Mosley of Lake Bay, Washington.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Childers Place and BSA Hospice for the care and comfort that they provided to Mr. Mosley.
