Herman Ray Northrup, age 81, of Amarillo, died December 28, 2016.
Memorial Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
Herman was born December 24, 1935 in Higgins, TX. His childhood days were spent living in Higgins and Canadian. The family lived on the following ranches in Lipscomb and Hemphill Counties: The Oasis, Big Bull and Kritser. His family moved to Amarillo in 1950, where he attended Amarillo High School, graduating in 1954. He married Elizabeth Ann Lackey on September 1, 1956.
Herman received a basketball scholarship from Shreiner Institute in Kerrville, TX. He attended and graduated from Texas Tech University in 1959 with a degree in Agronomy.
Mr. Northrup co-owned and operated Northrup Seed Company and Northrup Fertilizer. He invested his time and energy into farming and ranching.
Survivors include daughters, Melinda Northrup of Dallas, Amy Pairis and Sara Northrup of Amarillo; grandson, Kevin Pairis of Katy; a brother Roy Northrup of Amarillo and a sister Glenda Neill and husband Don of Amarillo and several nieces and nephews.
The Northrup family would like to acknowledge the care giving team from Georgia Manor and Kindred Hospice. They embraced Herman into their lives and treated him with dignity and grace. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to a favorite charity.
