Herschel L. Neal, Jr. of Amarillo died September 15, 2021.
Visitation will be from 6-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Polk Street United Methodist Church, 1401 S. Polk. Interment will be private. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.
Herschel was born April 3, 1938 in Denton, TX to Herschel Sr. and Mittie Neal. He graduated from Amarillo High School, then attended and earned a bachelor’s degree from West Texas State University. He later attended law school at U.T. Austin. Herschel married Diane Thompson on June 9, 1959. He owned and operated a motorhome dealership. In 1976 he moved to San Marino and attended Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA. Later, he opened a retail store in Newport Beach where he also owned a sailboat, which he enjoyed sailing because he loved the sea. Herschel was an instrument-rated pilot who also bought and sold airplanes. He enjoyed flying his own Gulfstream Commander. He also owned a travel agency in Costa Rica and later at Westgate Mall.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Billie Tom.
Herschel is survived by his wife, Diane Neal of Amarillo, TX; three sons, Herschel III (Kelly) of Amarillo, TX, Terry (Jonda) of Glasgow, KY, and Jarrod Neal of Shamrock, TX; four grandchildren, Hayley, Marina, Joshua and Nicole.
