Hobart B. McMordie age 78 of Amarillo, Texas died October 28, 2010.Services will be 1:00 PM November 1, 2010 at Westminster Presbyterian Church with Monsignor Joseph Tash officiating. Interment will be at 4:00 p.m. in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery in Canadian, Texas. The family will receive visitors Sunday, October 31, from 2:00-3:30 p.m. at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.Hobart B. McMordie was born August 13, 1932 to Frank F. and Nellie McMordie in Canadian, Texas. He served in the United States Navy as a seaman for five years and was discharged in San Francisco, California. He married Magdalena Sanchez on March 31, 1973 in San Miguel, Mexico and they moved to Amarillo in 1985. Hobart worked as a rancher and was involved in the oil and gas industry.Hobart was very involved in local civic activities and charities and served on the board of “Texas”, was active in the Boy Scouts and was a Scout Master for ten years, and Explorer advisor for five years. He was a loving uncle and very generous and gracious with his nieces and nephews, who loved him dearly. Hobart will be missed by many. He was preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Frank McMordie; two brothers John McMordie and Frank F. McMordie Jr.; and an uncle, Hobart B. McMordie.Survivors are his wife Magdalena McMordie of Amarillo; three sisters-in-law, Lucina Sanchez, Odlia Sanchez, and Laura Sanchez-Nieto all of San Miguel, Mexico; a brother-in-law, Arturo Sanchez of San Miguel, Mexico; and nephews, Charles H. McMordie and wife Tammy of Amarillo, Frank F. McMordie III of Lubbock, John Hobart McMordie and wife, Roxy, of McLean, Texas; and nieces Anna Henry of Plano, Texas, Joni McMordie of California, and many great nieces and nephews.The family requests memorial contributions to Panhandle Plains Historical Museum 2503 4th Avenue Canyon, Texas 79015, or to the Jones-McMordie Scholarship Fund
