Homer Preston Mills, 93, went home to be with the Lord on May 12, 2018 at the VA Hospital in Amarillo.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 21, 2018 at Memory Gardens Cemetery Field of Valor.
Preston was born July 22, 1924 in Krum, Texas to Wesley and Della Mills. He served in the United States Army during WWII on the Asian front, mostly in the Philippines and Japan. He earned a Purple Heart, due to injuries he sustained in the Battle of Cebu.
After the war, Preston married Mary Louise Jouett. He worked for Santa Fe Railroad for 38 years and farmed part time. He was a husband and father who took responsibility for taking care of his girls, very seriously. He paid for both of his daughters to complete college degrees because he understood the importance of education.
One of his other great loved was the Dallas Cowboys and he travelled many miles to watch them play.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Louise; and his parents, Wesley and Della Mills.
Preston is survived by 2 daughters, Pamela Mills of Lubbock, TX and Jennie Vestal and husband Harold of Wichita, KS; 2 granddaughters, of whom he delighted, Amanda Rempe and husband Kevin, and Lindsay West; 2 great-grandchildren, Amelia Louise Rempe and Preston Leo Rempe, all of Wichita, KS.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Amarillo Alzheimer’s Association, 5410 Bell St. #411, Amarillo TX 79101.
