Mrs. Balliett was born in Salt Lake City, UT, to Hollis and Marguerite Cornell. She moved with her family to Amarillo in 1960. Mrs. Balliett was a graduate of the University of Texas with a degree in Education. She was an AISD teacher for 25 years. After that she became a successful business woman.Ilene was heavily involved in the community as a volunteer and board member for many organizations such as; President of Art Force, Symphony Board, Lone Star Ballet, Amarillo Opera, Golden Nail Award Co- Chairperson and Golden Nail Award Recipient, West Texas Advisory Committee, and Chamber of Commerce Arts Committee. Mrs. Balliett was a lively, strong, intelligent, and generous woman who loved to travel, garden, dance, entertain, and work with community. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cornell; her two sisters Meta Blackham and Eveline Neuffer; one brother Herbert Cornell; first husband Thayne Roberts, and her son Dr. Kent Roberts.Survivors include her husband, Robert Balliett, several nieces and nephews, and special friends, Jolene Clement, Art Spikes, Debra Coscia, and her beloved cats Mikey, Sharlie, Andy and Tommy.The family will receive visitors at the funeral home Tuesday, May 25th, from 6 – 8 PM.
