Immaculate R. Quinto “Peggy”

Born: December 8, 1927                       Passed: February 24, 2023

Immaculate R. Quinto, better known as “Peggy”, was born in Connellsville, Pennsylvania, on December 8, 1927 to Elizabeth T. Pallidino and Vinchenzo “Vince” J. Quinto. She departed this life to be with the Lord on February 24, 2023, in Amarillo, Texas.

Peggy was blessed to be one of nine children in the home. She grew up in Connellsville, Pennsylvania, attended Rita Casta Junior High, and graduated from Connellsville High School in 1944.

In High School, she had one cooking class. She said “that was enough of that” and did not return to that class; cooking was not for her.

Peggy was not a stranger to work. As a young lady, she worked at her Grandfather’s Grocery Store called Paladino’s.

As Peggy got older, she showed her love for cars with a new 1954 Chevrolet Belaire being the first car in the family. She gladly became the designated driver with her family & friends. She updated her cars routinely to keep pace with the world.

Following High School, Peggy got a job with the local AT&T Company Office as a switchboard operator. In her free time, Peggy engaged in a bowling league with the Lady’s Club and ended up being #1 Bowler among the team.

In 1955, the Quinto family moved to Southern California where Peggy transferred her job from AT&T in Connellsville to Pacific Bell Telephone Company. At that job, Peggy worked with Bessie Stirling. Although Bessie was Peggy’s supervisor, they soon became close friends and little did they know, it was the beginning of a life-long friendship.

Peggy retired from Pacific Bell Telephone Company as a Manager in December 1983.

Peggy lived at home with two of her brothers until their mother’s passing. In 1993, Peggy and Bessie decided to move to Amarillo, Texas. This is where Peggy’s sister, Lucille Baughman and brother Albert Quinto resided.  This move would start a new journey in both their lives. Their friendship lasted over 70 years in total with the last 26 years sharing a home together.

Peggy and Bessie both were actively involved at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church located in Amarillo. Both were very deeply involved with the Benedictine Sisters of Canyon assisting them with their fundraisers such as wrapping candies to shucking corn. Both ladies remained loyal parishioners until Bessie’s passing in 2019.

Peggy will be best remembered for her welcoming demeanor. Even as the signs of dementia began to set in, everyone was invited in for coffee & cookies. When the bath-aide came to see her for the first time, Peggy answered the door, invited the lady in, thanked her for the visit and offered the aide something to drink.

Peggy’s brother Albert, who she lovingly referred to as “my baby brother” said “she was deeply devoted to her church; She loved people and just loved to visit.” He also said “she liked to visit more than eat and that’s why she was always so slender”.

Chesa Morris, her great niece, summarized her life as “having a servant’s heart; working and caring for others above herself; and a person always looking for a bargain. . .”. Aunt Peggy was very loving and enjoyed playing card games with her great-great nephew, Barrett Morris.

A Rosary will be Thursday, March 2, 2023 at 6:00 pm at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church located at: 4100 S. Coulter Street in Amarillo.

Mass will be Friday, March 3, 2023 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with Reverend John Valdez officiating.

Interment will be at the Llano Cemetery in Amarillo following the Mass.
