Bennie Perry, a longtime resident of Amarillo, passed away on March 22, 2013 at the age of 95.  She was born in Hollene, a small town a few miles north of Clovis, New Mexico on December 19, 1917, the fifth of seven girls, to George and Willie Sagely.  One of the highlights of her youth was as a star basketball player for her high school team.  Upon graduation she and one of her sisters moved to Amarillo to attend Amarillo College and St. Anthony's Nursing School.  It was during that time that she met her future husband, Thurmon Perry, a native Texan.  Mr. Perry's job eventually required that he relocate to Oklahoma City.

After Bennie graduating from nursing school and became a Registered Nurse in 1941, she and Thurmon married later that year at Polk Street Methodist Church and began their life together in Oklahoma City.  While in Oklahoma, Bennie continued nursing at Tinker Air Force Base and St. Anthony's Hospital.  The Perry’s returned to Amarillo in 1954 and Bennie pursued her nursing career at St. Anthony, Northwest Texas, and later at the Veterans Administration Hospital.  Mr. Perry pursued a successful new career in home building.

Bennie was  preceded in death by her husband Thurmon and is survived by two daughters, Brenda Elaine Izydorek (Fred) of Centennial, CO, Patricia Ann Thomason (Jerry) of Marietta, GA, son Gregory Dean Perry (Sharon) of Frisco, TX, two grandsons, Adam Perry (Alyssa) of Fulshear, TX and Ethan Perry of College Station, TX.
