IRENE STEIERT age 83
ROSARY: 7:00 PM on Tuesday, October 13th at Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel.
FUNERAL MASS will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, October 14th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church celebrant will be Msgr. Harold Waldow. Burial will be immediately following the Mass at Holy Family Cemetery in Nazareth, Texas. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
Irene was born on October 28, 1925 in Ft. Smith, AR to Leo T. and Mary Sharum. She graduated from St. Scholastica and went on to graduate from St. Edwards Nursing School in Ft. Smith. She married the love of her life, Louis “Bud” Steiert on April 11, 1961. He preceded her in death in 1993. She began her nursing career in the neonatal unit at St. Edwards, and then when the family moved to the Panhandle she worked in the polio unit in Plainview, retiring in 1995 after fifty years of nursing as charge nurse of the Med-Surg Unit. A caregiver throughout her entire life, she devoted herself to her precious family and those who were ill. In 1996 Irene moved to Amarillo to be closer to her family. An animal enthusiast to say the least, she loved and cared for not only her animals but those of her family’s. Irene loved to read; work puzzles and was famous for her coconut crème pies. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
In addition to her husband, Irene was preceded in death by her brothers, Leo and Maurice Sharum.
SURVIVORS:
Her four daughters, Alice Steiert of Amarillo, Joan Teer of Richards, Texas, Anna Holder of Waxahachie, TX and Judy Wood of Lubbock; her adopted daughter, Lisa Rohr of Amarillo; one sister Loretta Wieser of Ft. Smith, AR; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
