J. C. Thomas

J. C. was born in Merkel, Texas on July 19, 1922 to Carl and Faye Thomas. At an early age, his family moved to a farm in Okoloma, AR. He graduated from high school and joined the Army in 1942 where he was a top gunner on a B24. After being discharged from the Army, he went to work for American Airlines in Tulsa, OK where he was employed for 34 years. He moved to Amarillo where he met and married his wife, Glenda. They were married for 29 years.
He had a strong faith and was a member of Bolton Street Baptist Church where he was very active until his health declined. He was a volunteer for St. Anthony’s Hospice for 10 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Terri Thomas, and his sister Wyonna Duke.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda; his son Tom Delton of Tulsa; two stepdaughters, Lorana Peoples and Karan Bagley, both of Amarillo; two stepsons, Donnie Wempen of Capser, WY and Sam Wempen of Canyon; his sister, Peggy Moore of Amarillo; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and a very large extended family.
Burial will be held Saturday, May 2, at the Halfway Cemetery in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.
