Jackie "Jack" W. Hicks age 71 of Amarillo, Texas, entered into rest on March 4, 2009, at Baptist Saint Anthony's Hospice. He fought his battle with a smile on his face and was surrounded by friends and family as he quietly crossed. Jack was born December 15, 1937 in New Edinburg, Arkansas to Orie E. and Gladys S. Hicks. He had one older sister, Maudie Rhea Hicks, and one older brother, Donnie "Don" Lewis Hicks. He married his wife of 27 years, Virgina Hicks, in 1981. Jack worked for Jack B. Kelly, Inc. for 34 years as a dispatcher and driver. During his time with the company, he received several awards including an Award of Honor presented by the Texas Safety Association. His sense of humor and appreciation for a good laugh lightened the lives of those who had the honor of knowing him.
He is survived by his devoted wife Virginia Hicks of Amarillo, Texas; his children Deborah Sparks of Amarillo, Texas, Donna Hill of Amarillo, Texas, Jamie and Daphne Hicks of Denver, Colorado, and Becky Tucker of Luling, Texas; and by 8 grandchildren; and to many more that knew him as “pawpaw Jack”.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, his sister, and his son Wayne.
Pallbearers for the service are Jamie Hicks, Jessie Williams, Brandon Nivens, Ryan Sustaita, Devin McMillon, Jordan Sustaita, and honorary pallbearers include Hannah and Noah Tucker, Garry Hicks, Billy Mims, Jimmy Mims, and Larry Mims.
