Jackie Helen Horne

January 4, 1922 — January 22, 2013

Early in the morning of January 22, 2013, Jackie Horne departed this earth and went to her home with Jesus.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 24, in Brentwood Chapel at Schooler Funeral Home with Brent Womble officiating.  Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.

Jackie was born to George and Nina Mills in Quinton, Oklahoma on January 4, 1922.  When she was born, she only weighed 1 lb. 4 oz. and was not expected to survive.  On her birth certificate it was noted “still alive at 6:00 p.m.”.  She surprised everyone and showed the determination and perseverance that served her the rest of her 91 years.

After completing high school, Jackie moved to Amarillo and lived with her sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Eldon Beer.  She then met her life love, J. R. Horne.  They were married on August 23, 1941.

J.R. and Jackie enjoyed a wonderful life.  They traveled often, spending much time in Belton, Texas and south Texas.  They also traveled to Europe every year for eight years to attend the Six Day Motorcycle Races.

Jackie was a true homemaker.  You always knew there was going to be something good to eat at her home.

She was preceded in death by husband, J. R. Horne; grandson, Wade McDaniel; sisters, Velma Prince, Lilly Taylor, Edith Harris, Pauline Beer, Mildred Livingstone, Billie Brackeen and one brother, George Mills.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Carole McDaniel; grandson Casey McDaniel and wife Kathi; great-grandchildren, Christi, Joshua and Caleb McDaniel, Madison and Molly Siegenthaler, Gentry Ingels, and great-granddaughter, Evie Ingels; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rest in peace Mom, you will be missed.

A special thank you to Dr. Salil Trehan for his kindness and support.
