FUNERAL MASS will be held 10:00 A.M. Monday January 30, 2012, in St Mary’s Catholic Cathedral with MSGR. Harold Waldow celebrating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Amarillo, Texas. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.
James “Big Jim” Bacon left this earth the 25th of January. James was born on July 9, 1933 to John and Elizabeth Bacon. James proudly served in the Air Force for 21 years and served as an Aircraft Inspector having been stationed as far as Casablanca, Morocco. After retiring from the Air Force, James enjoyed a 2nd career working at WTAMU for 24 years.
Big Jim enjoyed being a member of the Skin Divers Club and with his Air Force training, he also enjoyed Radio Controlled Model Air Flyers. He served as a volunteer at the now defunct Amarillo Aircraft Museum.
Proceeded in death by his parents, John Ellis Bacon and Sarah Elizabeth Byrne Bacon in 1992; one grandchild, Jana Lynn in May of 2003.
James is survived by his wife of 55 years Ann Greear Bacon; his children, Catherine R. “Chelly” VanWinkle and husband, James of Elgin, Ok, William O. and wife, Jeannette of Amarillo, Elizabeth A. Musick and husband, Mark D. of Corinth, TX., James R. Bacon Jr., and wife Teresa, John E. Bacon II both of Amarillo; two brothers, John W. Bacon and wife, Elaine of Smyrna, TN, and Joseph R. Bacon and wife, Carmel of Waterford, CT; two sisters, Jean Kristoff and husband James of Lowell MA, and Joan R. Murphy of Elmira, NY; 14 grandchildren, Melanie, Barbara, Kevin, Nathan, Brandy, Valarie, Jessica, Olivia, Bryan, Jennifer, Brittney, Joshua, Nickalous, and Felicia; 12 great-grandchildren, ShyAnne, Sarah, Erick, Avery, Cadence, Brianna, Desiree, Naomi, Dawn, Colten, Devin, and Braden.
