James Russell Conrad, age 70 of Ohatchee, Alabama died Sunday, July 5, 2015. Mr. Conrad was a resident of the Ohatchee area since 2001, moving there from Marysville, Ohio. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Pell City, Alabama.
Mr. Conrad was born January 19, 1945 in Amarillo, Texas the first son of Arthur and Louise Conrad. He graduated valedictorian from Groom High School in 1962. He was a graduate if Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas in 1967 with a bachelor degree of Science. His first employer was Wilson Certified Foods in Oklahoma City where he met his love, and partner for life, Joan Warden. He married Joan on November 8, 1969 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. The Conrad careers moved the family from Oklahoma to California, Iowa, Ohio and Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard A. Conrad of Panhandle, Texas.
Survivors include his wife, Joan of the home; two sons, John A. Conrad and wife Anita of Pekin, Indiana and Jason T. Conrad of Marysville, Ohio; one daughter, Jacqueline J. Visscher and husband Jon of Ludington, Michigan; 11 grandchildren Hayden and Josie Conrad of Marysville, Ohio; Caleb and Joshua Conrad of Pekin, Indiana; Collin, Andy, Jed, Clayton. Joy Will and Sedona Visscher of Ludington, Michigan; two sisters, Evelyn King and husband Jim and Cindy Cox and husband Alan of Amarillo; one brother, Donnie Conrad and wife Marcia of Groom; a sister-in-law Prissy Conrad Campbell of Wichita, Kansas and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2 PM until 5PM today at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia in Amarillo.
A Rosary will be said tonight at 7PM in Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Groom, Texas. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Saturday, July 11th at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Raj Samala as celebrant. There will also be a visitation one hour before the services at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
