James Ray Massa

October 28, 1927 — July 7, 2013

James Ray Massa, age 85 of Amarillo, died Sunday, July 7, 2013 in Amarillo.

Memorial Services will be at 2:00 PM Sunday, July 14, 2013 in Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel, 4100 South Georgia, with Sherman Eastland, Chaplain of Odyssey Healthcare officiating.  Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.

Mr. Massa was born in Quay County, New Mexico on October 28, 1927. At age 16, he entered the Army and served in WWII.  James reenlisted for the Korean War, was wounded in Inchon, Korea and was redeployed back to Korea a second time followed by an honorable discharge.  He then reenlisted and served a tour in Vietnam before retiring from the Army in 1968.

He was self-employed and owned several businesses before moving to Amarillo in 1976.  In 1995, he retired for the final time from the tiling business he owned and operated.  James loved golf, was a Dallas Cowboys fan and loved to travel.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eloise Massa in September 2005; two sisters, Dorothy and Helen; and two brothers, Sherman and Clyde.

He is survived by  two daughters, Letha Karmgard and husband Robert of Chicago; Janetta  Massa-Walters and husband Gene of Norman, Oklahoma; a son, Doyle Massa and wife Geraldine of Austin; a brother, Victor Biney of Canyon; a step-daughter, Gayle Temple of Dallas; longtime friend, Pat Miner of Amarillo; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
