James Lloyd Passons, 87, of Amarillo died April 16, 2015.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 20, 2015 at Crossroads Country Church, 14425 South Washington. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia Street, Amarillo, Texas. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
There will be a visitation on Sunday, April 19 from 5:00 to 6:00 pm at Schooler Funeral Home.
James was born on November 27, 1927 in Rockwall, Texas to John Wesley and Jonnie Passons. The family moved to Borger, Texas when James was two years of age. He attended all his school years in Borger. On January 6, 1946, he married Dorothy Louise Hooten. He worked for J.M. Huber Corporation at that time.
In 1951, James moved his family to Newcastle, Wyoming where he worked in the oil field for Petroleum Service, Inc. During this time with PSI, he also lived in Sidney, Nebraska and Abilene, Texas. The family lived in Pampa, Texas for two years where he was employed by Lane Wells. The family later moved back to Newcastle and he joined the police department, was also undersheriff for Weston County and was later Chief of Police.
In 1972, he and Dorothy moved to Amarillo and he became the Chief of Police at West Texas State University where he remained until he retired in 1989.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, his parents, his brothers LeeRoy Passons of Amarillo, Kenneth Passons, of Hot Springs, South Dakota, and J.W. Passons of Jacksonville, Florida.
He is survived by two daughters, Carla Rose Evans and Jolene Martinson both of Amarillo, three grandsons, Michael Guynn, Mark Guynn, and Brandon Martinson, and one granddaughter, Chrissy Ward, all of Amarillo. Also by four great granddaughters, two great grandsons, and two great, great grandsons, his only sister, Doris Hackley of Cherryvale, Kansas, two brothers, Dennis Passons, of Golden, Colorado and Billy Passons, of Amarillo.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Crossroads Country Church in memory of James. P.O. Box 50608, Amarillo, Texas 79159-0608. He loved his Lord and Savior and his church. He will be sorely missed by all those who knew him on this earth, but the angels are rejoicing!
